Computer Guided Surgery

Lava COS

Computer aided dental implant planning increases the predictability of replacing missing teeth in partially and fully edentulous cases. Designed for predictable results through prosthetic-driven 'backward planning', coDiagnostiX™/GonyX Guided Surgery allows you to find the optimal implant position for most implant systems, from both a surgical and prosthetic perspective. By involving the entire team from the very beginning, you can achieve a predictable outcome regarding esthetics, function and costs.

3D (CB) CT data contain more information that conventional 2D radiographs. This additional information, together with the surgical template, gives you confidence during the surgical procedure. Furthermore, guided surgery allows for performing minimally invasive surgery which may result in a less painful procedure for the patient.

Workflow Chart

Step 1 Master model fabrication
The master model represents the patient situation and is the basis for the production of the scan and surgical template.
Step 2 Scan template fabrication
The scan template contains information about the desired prosthetic outcome in the form of radiopaque teeth (visible in CT/DVT scan). The scan template has to be connected to the templiX plate containing three reference pins. This ensures the link between digital implant planning and surgical template fabrication.
Step 3 CT/DVT scanning
The patient is scanned wearing the scan template with a 3D CT/DVT scanner. The scanning process can be carried out with most commercially available CT and DVT devices that provide imaging information according to the widely accepted DICOM standard.
Step 4 Diagnostics & 3D implant planning
The user can import 3D data set (DICOM) directly into the planning software coDiagnostiX™. The implant is positioned with respect to the patient's anatomy and the desired prosthetic outcome. After completion of the implant planning, the software provides the coordinate plan for surgical template production with the gonyX and the surgical protocol for the guided surgery kit.
Step 5 Surgical template fabrication
The surgical template is produced with the gonyX according to the template plan that is provided by coDiagnostiX for each implant. The surgical template contains the surgical sleeves that guide the surgical instruments and the implant. There is no need to produce a new template. If desired, the scan template can be reworked into the surgical template.
Step 6 Guided surgery and implant insertion
After fixing the surgical template in the patient's mouth, the implant bed can be prepared with the guided instruments followed by guided implant insertion. The surgical protocol provided by the planning software indicates which instruments are required to prepare each implant site.
